Winter Hiking & Tobogganing

Slow Dolomites

On quiet soles, with a light heart

Winter hiking and tobogganing in the Odles Slow Dolomites are more than just an outing. It is the interplay between a contemplative ascent and carefree laughter on the descent.

Groomed trails lead you through the Puez-Geisler Nature Park and across the vast expanses of the Lüsner Alm. Passing sugar-coated stone pines and silent peaks, you hike towards your destination: a rustic mountain hut, genuine hospitality, and the starting point for a delightful ride back down to the valley.

The journey is the destination

With every step through the crunching snow, your mind grows clearer. The wide alpine paths offer the space and safety to immerse yourself in the winter world without haste. The crisp air and the sparkle of ice crystals are your constant companions.

We invite you to leave the car behind: the hiking parking areas of Zumis near Lüsen and Zans in Villnöss are easily accessible by bus. In this way, the process of slowing down begins the moment you set off. Once you arrive at the top, you will be warmed not only by the sun but also by the hearty South Tyrolean cuisine served in our alpine huts.

A spirited slide back to the valley

After the silence of the ascent comes the joy of movement. On perfectly maintained natural runs, you glide through the curves toward the valley floor. It’s not about breaking records; it’s about the shared experience.

In Villnöss and Lüsen, seven natural toboggan runs await you, nestling harmoniously into the forests and meadows. From gentle slopes for families to spirited runs for the more experienced—each track tells its own story. It is that feeling of the wind in your face and pure freedom that makes a winter day complete.

Learning from a world champion

Tobogganing on natural runs requires its own specific technique. Who better to teach it than Patrick Lambacher, our very own world champion from the valley?

With great passion, he shows you how to take the curves with elegance and brake with confidence. His expert tips ensure that you feel not only safe on the sled but also light and in control. It is an experience that provides beginners with a sense of security and gives advanced riders that final competitive edge.

Sledding safety

Even on a natural run, sledding is a skill to be learned. To ensure the fun continues and everyone stays safe, please keep the following tips in mind:

  • Equipment: Helmets are mandatory for all sledders. In addition, you should wear sturdy, high-top footwear with a good grip. We recommend winter-proof clothing, ski goggles for a clear view, and ski gloves.
  • Controlled speed: Adjust your speed and riding style to suit your own ability and the conditions of the track. Sledding is only permitted on designated runs.
  • Share the path: On a few short sections, the same path is used for both the descent and the ascent—please use caution and show consideration for others!
